Emilie Anne Daubner

Born: December 23, 1913
Died: October 07, 2012

Emilie Anne Larson (Mrs. Laurence) Daubner, 98, died peacefully on October 7, 2012. She was born in Sturgeon Bay on December 23, 1913 to Lena and Reinhardt Larson. Her father worked on a Lighthouse Ship. She was one of 12 children and has been preceded in death by her parents, husband Laurence, and siblings Agnes, Augusta, Mabel, Ella, Anne, Helen, Roy, Harold, Jack, and Norman.

She is survived by children Sharon Doersching, David (Solbjorg) Daubner, grandchildren Greg (Jessie) Doersching, Erik (Debbie) Doersching, Annie (Chris) Gariepy, Eric (Ann) Michalsen, Lisa (Ron) MacDonald, Maia Michalsen and one sister, Margaret Moegenburg. She is further survived by her precious great-grandchildren Erik, Jr., Griffin, Matthew, Emilie, and Greysen Doersching, Jacque and Luke Gariepy, Hannah Michalsen Broyles, Lena and Connor MacDonald, as well as many nieces and nephews of several generations. Right to her final years she attended their sports events, musical events, award ceremonies, graduations, and weddings.

She spent 32 years as a teacher in rural Door County, including all 8 grades in Juddville and Pershing Schools, four grades in Ellison Bay School, and ended as building supervisor with only 4th grade in what she called "a dream job" in Sister Bay School which still stands on the top of the Sister Bay hill in Schoolhouse Park. In her retirement she worked for the Sister Bay Library.

She was a lifelong reader, tended the cherry orchard on the family's rural homestead where she raised her children with Laurence, crocheted, swam daily until she was 92, was active in St. Rosalia's Sodality, and loved to travel--going to Florida, all over Europe, and on several cruises with her husband and sisters. She and Laurence took many boat trips after their retirement on their own boat on the Great Lakes. It was a tragedy when her home burned in 2006, but she enjoyed her new apartment and the loving care of the Scand family at The Meadows and Woodview.

Mostly friends and family will remember her as an avid Packers fan. When she could no longer attend games, she never missed being in front of the TV. She wore the garb, wrote letters supporting the team when sportscasters espoused doubt, received autographs, had her picture taken with Reggie White at Al's Swedish Restaurant, and decorated her final home at Woodview Assisted Living with Packer paraphernalia.

A private remembrance ceremony for the residents of Scand was held on Wednesday, October 24. The family and public Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rosalia's Catholic Church in Sister Bay. Everyone is invited to wear their Packer garb or green and gold clothing. The family will greet guests at an indoor "Tailgate" Party following the Mass.

Emilie Daubner Memorial Fund has been established. Memorials can be sent to P.O. Box 556, Sister Bay, WI 54234.
