Dean Logerquist Obituary

Dean Richard Logerquist, 84, of Sister Bay, WI died peacefully at home with family on Saturday, August 3, 2019.

He was born October 11, 1934 in the Town of Liberty Grove, son of the late Elmer and Mable (Larson) Logerquist. Following his graduation from Gibraltar High School, Dean proudly served his country with the United States Coast Guard.

His construction career started in Illinois where he learned the skills of masonry along with all aspects of the building art. In 1967, he moved his family back to his parents’ family farm in Liberty Grove where he became proficient at the Scandinavian style of masonry as his artistry fills the Door County landscape. His building and contracting skills spanned a wide range of abilities, but he was most known and sought after for his masonry skills.

Above all, Dean was a Door County native who loved life. He knew everyone and if he didn’t, he would make a point of getting to know you. He cherished his time with family and friends. Locally, he led the count cadence for the Billy Weiss American Legion Post 527 and was a member for over 50 years. He marched in countless parades and served as Post Commander in his earlier days. Dean was an active member of the Sister Bay Moravian Church and volunteered his time and talents to many different local needs. He was an avid ski jumper in the ‘50s and ‘60s and stayed involved by teaching the sport to local young adults in the community. Baseball was a huge part of his life and he shared his love of the sport with his children.

Dean is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marlene; four children, Lee (Debbie), Hans, Deanna (John) Peterson, and Ross (Dori); four grandsons, Zachary, Isak, Stefan, and Seth; two granddaughters, Ashley and Kirsten; and two sisters-in-law, Joyce and Pat Logerquist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mable Logerquist; six siblings, Evelyn Leeder, Clyde, Lloyd, John, Donald, and Douglas.

A celebration of Dean’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Sister Bay Moravian Church with Rev. Kerry Krauss officiating. Military honors by the United States Coast Guard and the Billy Weiss American Legion Post 527 will follow at the church. Private burial will be in Little Sister Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Saturday, August 24, 2019 from 12:00 noon until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Dean’s memory for Unity Hospice.
