Judith Safranski Obituary

Judith Sue Safranski, 67, of Sturgeon Bay, fell asleep in the loving arms of her husband, Michael, at home and awoke in the arms of the Lord, late Tuesday morning, October 15, 2019.

Judy was born January 13, 1952 in South Milwaukee, the daughter of Henry J. and Lillian J. (Jurci) Repa. She graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1970 and went on to study at Evangelical Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing School. Following her graduation, Judy was initially employed as surgical registered nurse downtown Milwaukee before changing to long-term care nursing. She worked for several nursing care facilities in the Milwaukee area. Judy met Michael Edward Safranski while standing up as a bridesmaid for Mike’s brother, Peter’s wedding in 1972. They moved from Cudahy to Algoma in 1994 and lived there a short while before moving to Sturgeon Bay. Judy was united in marriage to Mike on December 22, 1995 at the home of a friend and local doctor on Glidden Drive in the Town of Sevastopol. She worked for the Dorchester Nursing Home in Sturgeon Bay for a couple years and then went to work for Good Samaritan Society-Scandia Village in Sister Bay for 17 years until 2012. Judy was most recently employed with Home Instead Senior Care and was working up until September when her health prevented her from working.

She was raised Catholic and attended church in the South Milwaukee neighborhood. Judy’s declining health prevented her from attending church recently, but she found great comfort in receiving the sacrament of anointing of the sick before her passing. She devoted her life to nursing and caregiving.

Judy will be deeply missed by her husband, Mike, with whom she was blessed with nearly 24 years of marriage; mother, Lillian Repa of South Milwaukee; five siblings, Guy (Sue) Repa of South Milwaukee, Timothy (Joyce) Repa of Irving, TX, Jill Repa, Michael Repa, and Jennifer (Bill) Wesley, all of South Milwaukee; twelve siblings-in-law, Anthony Safranski, Wendy Safranski, both of Neenah, Peter (Janet) Safranski of Sturgeon Bay, Joseph (Gail) Safranski of South Milwaukee, Richard (Kathy) Safranski of Menasha, Andy (Debbie) Safranski, Matthew (Krystal), both of Neenah, Paul (Kathy) Safranski of Luxemburg, John (Kalyn) Safranski of Sturgeon Bay, Polly (Mary Kay Klukas) of Milwaukee, Robert Safranski of Neenah, and Daniel (LeAnn Kaiser) Safranski of Hilbert; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; and niece, Natalie Repa.

Judy’s life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Ryan Krueger as celebrant.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.

“Thank you to all of the doctors and nurses at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay for the care you gave to Judy and also to the staff of Unity Hospice for the compassionate gave you provided Judy and our family at home. A special thanks goes out to Michael Flood, PA-C and the nurses at Nor Door Clinic in Sister Bay for all of your years of care as Judy’s primary care provider.”
