Louis Andrew Munao, Sr., 58, of Washington Island, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.
He was born October 13, 1960 in Oak Park, Illinois, the son of Andrew Sr. and Bonnie (Semler) Munao. After graduating from Forest View High School, Lou joined the family business and became the Vice President of Shipyard Island Marina, where he worked alongside of his mom, dad, brother, and son. Lou and Jennifer Graham were united in marriage on September 10, 2006 at the Washington Island Stavkirke. He was a basketball coach, problem solver, piano player, drag racer, and a lover of Ford trucks. Lou was a one in a million, outgoing prankster who loved to make others happy with his mischievous demeanor and wild sense of humor. He was generous, kind, patient, and encouraging. He was attentive and caring about other’s well-being. Lou served as a Town Board member and was a friendly face around the community, where he was committed to excellence in both school and town affairs. Above all else, he was a hardworking family man, who was a proud and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Lou will be missed by his loving wife, Jennifer; children, Gena (Ron) Fisco (and their children, Emma and Vincent), Louis Jr. (special friend, Haley Jonas), Jonathan, Anthony, Elizabeth, and Jillian; parents, Andrew Sr. and Bonnie; brothers, Andrew Jr. (Lisa) and Anthony (Vanessa) Munao; sister, Janette Munao; father-in-law, Colin Graham (Mary Weir); mother-in-law, Jill Graham; sister-in-law, Alison (Mark) Stewart; former wife, Deidre; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service to honor Lou’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church on Washington Island at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Alan Schaffmeyer of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church and Pastor Rick Smith of Bethel Ev. Free Church will co-officiate the service. A private burial will take place in the Washington Island Town Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather on Monday, February 25, 2019 at the church from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
A special ferry to Northport is scheduled to leave Washington Island on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. A van will transport individuals without vehicles from the ferry to the church.
