Audrey "Andy" Fendius Obituary

Audrey “Andy” Marie Fendius (nee Andersen), passed away peacefully at Serenity Springs in Sister Bay, WI on December 15, 2025. She lived a long and happy life.

Audrey, daughter of Harold and Harriet Andersen was born February 19, 1930, in Chicago, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard Andersen, of Omaha, NE.

She attended Chicago schools, graduating from Von Steuben High School in 1948 and National College in 1952. She took great pride in academic achievements and community contributions in both high school and college. Working on staff at National College (and later at Holy Family Hospital) was one of her greatest honors. She shared this sentiment with her family often.

She was united in matrimony to Richard (Dick) George Fendius in 1953, who preceded her in death in April 2017. They settled on Harvey Drive in Des Plaines, IL, and found great pleasure in building friendships with their neighbors and hosting annual Christmas parties. They enjoyed long drives, traveling (even making it to Alaska), exploring nature, celebrating family traditions in Door County WI, and volunteering at the History Center in Des Plaines.

They were blessed with a wonderful daughter, Janet Marie Durr (nee Fendius) in 1953, who, sadly, preceded Audrey in death in May 2024.

Audrey loved being a mother and grandmother. She wanted to know everything about those she loved, and she often arranged special days with her granddaughters - visiting museums or petting farms and even taking the girls on a road trip to see Niagara Falls.

Audrey touched countless lives with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. Family, friends, and community members alike will remember her infectious smile and spirited conversations.

She is survived by loving family members and friends, including her son-in-law, Richard Durr (whom she loved greatly); granddaughters, Jaclyn (Dennis) Wolff and Stefanie (David) Flores; four great-grandsons, Charles, Mateo, James, and Jack; sister-in-law, Pat Andersen; nieces Audrey (Terry) and Susie (Jeff); nephew Eric; and other loved cousins.

Let's celebrate a well-lived life marked with love, laughter, and kindness. May we find comfort in knowing that her legacy endures in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know Audrey.

No formal services will be held for Audrey at this time.
