Bonnie Lou Sandstrom, 79, of Sister Bay, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.
She was born July 17, 1942 in Wausau, daughter of the late Norman Arnold and Gladys Elsie (Relitz) Tesch. After graduating from DC Everest High School with the Class of 1960, she attended Columbia School of Nursing and graduated with her nursing degree in 1963. Bonnie began her professional career as a registered nurse at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. She transitioned to being an occupational nurse for Appleton Papers, where she retired from in 2003. During her time as a nurse, she volunteered countless hours for American Red Cross Blood Banks for more than 40 years. Upon retirement, she became a pastel and watercolor artist and had her art featured at Top of the Hill Shops, Scandia Village, and at various art fairs. Bonnie enjoyed traveling with the European Art Trips Group led by Ed Fenendael. She also loved playing tennis, downhill skiing, and playing Mahjong.
On January 4, 1964, Bonnie Lou Tesch and Erland Reese Sandstrom were united in marriage at Peace United Church of Christ in Rothschild. The two retired to Door County and were members of the Door County Art League.
Bonnie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Erl Sandstrom; daughter, Carrie Ann (Ron Joss) Sandstrom; grandson, Reese Sandstrom; sister, Karen Kohn; adored chocolate cocker spaniel, Gunnar; and dear friends, Judy Jacobs, Marsha Nichols, and Ed Fenendael.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Gladys Tesch.
In honor of Bonnie’s wishes, no formal services will be held. She was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery in Appleton.
