Carol Ann Crance, age 79 of Washington Island, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Bellin Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born on October 19, 1945, to the late Henry and Rose (Koif) Busse in Chicago.
On October 20, 1962, Carol was united in marriage to William D. Crance at St. Benedict Parish in Chicago. The couple was blessed with two children, Michael Todd and Tara Lynn. Carol and Bill raised their children in Chicago, where they were born and raised. Carol was a devoted mother and homemaker. She also assisted her husband in his taxidermy business and was instrumental in starting the Illinois Taxidermy Association which was founded in 1980.
In 1976, the Crance family started spending summer vacations on Washinton Island, eventually buying property on the island. They decided to become permanent residents of Washington Island when they retired.
In her youth, Carol enjoyed archery and won many awards. She continued this until early adulthood. She also enjoyed arts and crafts.
The Crance family would like to extend a special thank you to the Washington Island Fire and Rescue for their extraordinary care over the years. They would also like to thank the staff at Door County Medical Center and Bellin Hospital for their care and compassion.
Carol is survived by her husband, Bill Crance; children Michael Todd (Gina) Crance and Tara Lynn (James) Martino; and grandchildren, Nicholas Crance, Matthew Crance, and Andrea Rose Martino.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Robert and Joan.
Private family services were held for Carol.
