Dean Lewis Hickey, 88, of Walker, MN and Ephraim, WI, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Aurora BayCare in Green Bay, WI.
He was born June 4, 1935, in Sturgeon Bay, WI, the son of William and Ruth (Plockelman) Hickey. Dean attended Gibraltar High School and graduated with the class of 1953. Dean served our country in the United States Navy from 1952 to his honorable discharge in 1960. He attended University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and Green Bay, Michigan Tech for 4+ years graduating in 1963 with an undergraduate degree in Forest Management. Dean worked as a Forest Ranger for the US Government for 30 years until his retirement in 1997. On June 24, 1961, he married Marilee Jensen. Dean and Marilee lived in Walker, MN, and have continued to operate their resort cottage business in Ephraim.
He was a member of Giants Ridge Ski Patrol. He enjoyed downhill skiing, hunting big game, fishing, carpentry/building, and antique cars especially Model A and vintage Dodge trucks.
Dean will be missed by his wife, Marilee; four sons, Bill (Heidi) Hickey of Stillwater, MN, Erik (Sara) Hickey Heggland of Coeur d' Alene, ID, Kurt (Meredith) Hickey Heggland of Sun Prairie, WI, D.O. Karl Lewis (Angela) Hickey Heggland of Dillon, CO; six grandsons, Jacob Hickey, Ben Hickey, Sam Hickey, Hunter Heggland, Chase Heggland, and Hakon Heggland; granddaughter, Marit Hickey; three brothers, Dennis (Lynnea) Hickey of Baileys Harbor, WI, Jonathan (Claudia) Hickey of Dyckesville, WI, and Jeffery (Pat) Hickey of Baileys Harbor, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth Hickey.
Dean will be honored with Mass at Stella Maris Parish—Sister Bay site on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Tom Farrell officiating. Military Honors will follow the Mass at church. He will be laid to rest in Blossomberg Cemetery in Fish Creek.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Stella Maris Parish—Sister Bay site.
