Dennis Edward Mayborne

     Dennis Edward Mayborne, 76, of Fish Creek, passed away Tuesday night, February 13, 2024 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.

     He was born July 28, 1947 in Belvidere, IL, the son of Royal Arthur Mayborne and Frances Ann (Anderson) Mayborne Roland. Dennis graduated from Belvidere High School with the class of 1966.

     He married Susan Lynn Kral on March 11, 1972 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Strickney, IL. They were blessed with a son, Thomas, and over six years of marriage. Susan preceded Dennis in death on September 24, 1978.

     Dennis belonged to the Midwest Operating Engineers Local 150 and worked in the Chicago area until his retirement in 2004. Many regarded him as the best crane operator in Local 150.

     Dennis met Eileen Catharine Burquist in 1984, and they were united in marriage on March 16, 1985 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Bolingbrook, IL. With Eileen having vacationed up in Door County over the years, they built their home in the Town of Gibraltar in 1987.

     Together, Dennis and Eileen attended St. Paul Catholic Church in Fish Creek (now Stella Maris Parish-Fish Creek Site) where Dennis was presently a member. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4896 out of Baileys Harbor and was a past Grand Knight and Treasurer.

     Dennis loved aviation and space exploration. He was a private pilot since living in Bolingbrook and enjoyed "quick" flights to Door County over the years. Dennis was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). He was the "Cart Driver Extraordinaire" for the Northern Sky Theater in Fish Creek. Dennis was an avid card player and looked forward to playing with his bi-weekly poker club.

     He will be missed by his wife, Eileen, with whom he was blessed with nearly 39 years of marriage; siblings-in-law, Jeanette (Lynn) Schwerdt of Glendale, OR and James (Deb Verret) Burquist of Bend, OR; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

     Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Royal Mayborne and Frances Roland; first wife, Susan Mayborne; son, Thomas Mayborne (1994); siblings, Joseph Roland and Jackie Barnes; and other relatives.

     No services are scheduled to be held.
