Donna Hupe Obituary

Donna Joy Hupe (nee Franke) of Sister Bay, WI, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family. Born on November 16, 1938, Donna lived a life marked by family, community, and a variety of interests.

Donna is survived by her devoted husband Ronald, with whom she shared nearly 65 years of marriage, a partnership filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. She leaves behind daughters, Dawn Klein (Gary), Cheryl Hupe-Hoefert (Eric Hoefert), and Margaret Hupe; grandchildren, Sarah Klein, Emily Klein, Samantha Greivell (Daniel Lin), Alex Greivell, and Stacy Blatz (Ryan); along with three great-grandchildren, Conrad, Ellis, and Arlo Blatz. She is also survived by her sister, Roberta Batalden (Glenn); and a son-in-law, Dan Greivell.

She is preceded in death by her mom and dad, Martha and Marvin Franke; brother, Robert Franke; and sister, Carol Burns.

Donna found solace and purpose in her faith as an enthusiastic member of the choir at Shepherd of the Bay Church for 25 years. Her dedication to her church family was evident in her unwavering commitment and joyful participation in every hymn and service.

Donna's professional life was equally fulfilling, as she served as a librarian at Carroll University after getting her master’s degree in library science, where her passion for literature and learning touched the lives of many. An avid reader herself, Donna found immense joy in the world of books, sharing her love for storytelling and knowledge with all who knew her.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Donna embraced her creative side, knitting beautiful sweaters for herself, her husband, and for charitable causes. Her talent and generosity warmed the hearts of many, leaving a tangible legacy of comfort and compassion.

Together with her husband Ron, Donna cultivated a shared love for classical music, regularly attending the Peninsula Music Festival and embarking on adventures to the Beethoven Music Festival in Minnesota. Their shared appreciation for the arts extended to live theater, where they reveled in the magic of storytelling and performance.

Donna and Ron were passionate about travelling, including Elderhostel trips (now called Rhode Scholar). Together they explored and learned much about the country. They participated in 15 Elderhostel’s including a special photography focused program in Utah.

Donna's zest for life was further evident in her love for dining out, playing bridge and participating in wine clubs. She relished in the exploration of new places and flavors with her cherished family and friends. She also had an immense love of dogs, particularly a beloved rescue beagle named Ruby.

The family is profoundly grateful for the outpouring of prayers and support during this difficult time, finding solace in the memories and love shared with Donna throughout her life.

The family is also thankful for the care of Dr. Binard and the many nurses and staff members at Door County Medical Center. Every person was incredibly kind, dedicated, and compassionate. In addition, the family extends their thanks to Pastor Jim Hoenig of Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church for his support and words of comfort.

Celebration of Donna’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, Ellison Bay, with Pastor Jim Honig officiating.

Friends may call at the church after 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2024 until time of service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shepherd of the Bay Church in Ellison Bay for the music fund. The music program at Donna’s church was a huge source of joy for her.

Donna will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace, her spirit forever alive in the hearts of those who loved her.
