Donna Marie Lundberg (nee Lind), 79, of Washington Island, Wisconsin, arrived in Heaven on December 2, 2023 after a valiant, four-year-fight with pancreatic cancer.
Donna was born on December 9, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur Cornelius Lind and Jeannette (Zito) Lind. She graduated from Fenton High School in Bensenville, IL where she was an accomplished student and athlete. Donna was united in marriage to Merrill Clarence Lundberg on October 23, 1970 in Chicago.
She was a successful small business owner, the maker of countless chocolate chip cookies (the secret recipe is on the bag…just follow it!), a passionate gardener who never had enough mulch, and the chauffeur of her children and then her grandchildren to an endless array of activities and church youth group events. Raised a Chicago sports team fan, Donna saw the light after her wedding to Merrill and relished her last Packers victory on Thanksgiving Day 2023.
She and Merrill were members of Bethel Evangelical Free Church on Washington Island and also Chapel Street Church in Geneva, IL.
Donna was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her love will live on in the hearts of her devoted husband, Merrill, with whom she was blessed to share over 53 years of marriage; her loving son, Eric (Elisabeth) Lundberg and her cherished daughter, Kristin (Scott) Brunsting; her precious grandchildren Tyler, Rachel, Kelsey, and Emily Brunsting; sisters, Janet Hanlin and Nancy (Walter) Lechner; siblings-in-law, Kurt (Ted) Mehnert and Donna Lind and Bernadine (Wayne) Christiansen and Philip Lundberg; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and dear friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Beverly (Ted) Mehnert and Stanley (Donna) Lind; and other relatives.
More importantly, she never ran out of energy, love, or guidance for her family and friends. Four years of Stage 4 pancreatic cancer and a global pandemic weren’t going to slow down our Matriarch. Not even a little bit.
Most importantly, Donna knew that she was a daughter of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She invested herself in each and every family member and even in her last hours prayed for each of them. Her boundless generosity was rooted in her own experience with God’s amazing grace.
Donna’s family invites you to celebrate her life and her Savior on Saturday, December 9th, at 11am, which would have been her 80th birthday. The funeral service will be held at Bethel Church, 1821 Main Road, Washington Island, WI 54246 with Pastor Rick Smith officiating. Donna will be laid to rest in the (Town of Washington) Island Cemetery.
There will be no scheduled visitation prior to the service. A continued time of fellowship will follow the cemetery committal, back at Bethel Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethel Church, in memory of Donna Lundberg.
Her family would like to express its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Pitot and his team at Mayo Clinic for the amazing care they provided to Donna.
Arrangements have been entrusted with Casperson Funeral Home in Sister Bay, Wisconsin. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Donna may be shared with her family through her tribute page at www.caspersonfuneralhome.com.
