Eloise Elsie (Enstrom) Lindem

     In loving memory of Eloise Lindem, who passed away as she lived: with dignity and grace. Eloise was a woman of warmth and kindness, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

     Eloise Elsie Lindem, age 90 of the Village of Sister Bay, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, in Sturgeon Bay. She was born in Menominee, Michigan, on May 17, 1933, to the late Clifford and Elsie (Buckland) Enstrom. After graduating from Menominee High School, Eloise set out for California in pursuit of adventure, following the love of her life, Joseph Curtis "Curt" Lindem. They were united in marriage on November 22, 1952, in Los Angeles, CA, and together, they embarked on various business ventures, including Eagle Harbor, Wooden Pictures, and Lindemwood. Their hard work and dedication to serving their clientele brought them much joy throughout their life together.

     But Eloise's caring spirit extended beyond her business pursuits. She was a pillar of support for her community, always ready to lend a helping hand and make anyone feel like family. After her beloved husband Curt passed away, Eloise threw herself into volunteer work, becoming an active member of the Sister Bay Historical Society and a dedicated volunteer at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church. She was particularly cherished for her role as a teacher of Wonderful Wednesday's, imparting wisdom and love to the youth of the church. Many rising adults found mentorship in her, and she inspired them to give back to the community.

     Eloise's culinary talents were legendary, and she will forever be remembered for her delectable chocolate chip cookies, carrot cake, and Mark's favorite chocolate roll. Her giving nature extended to her baking, and she found joy in sharing her creations with others. Eloise's love for her Swedish heritage was evident in her passion for sharing cherished traditions with her family and friends. One of her most treasured legacies (an acquired taste) was the lutefisk pudding recipe, a delicacy she held close to her heart. With love and pride, she passed this time-honored recipe onto her dear niece, Sue Lindem, ensuring that the flavors and memories of their heritage would continue to be shared and cherished for generations to come.

     Throughout her life, Eloise found joy in music. She was an accomplished piano player and a dedicated member of the church and bell choir for many years. She also loved playing cards, often spending hours playing solitaire and spite and malice while overlooking the bay at her cherished cottage on Little Sister Bay.

     Eloise's love for her family was boundless, and she held dear to tradition and the memories shared at the cottage. She had a song in her heart, a never-ending goodbye, and a loving touch to ensure no one left too soon. Her presence brought light and warmth to those around her, earning her the endearing nickname "Merry Sunshine."

     Eloise Lindem's ability to remain in her home throughout her later years was a testament to the caring and compassionate community of Sister Bay. The support and love she received from her neighbors, friends, and fellow community members allowed her to maintain her independence and cherished routines. Their genuine concern and willingness to lend a helping hand ensured that Eloise could continue to enjoy her familiar surroundings, filled with cherished memories and the comfort of her beloved home. The community's dedication to looking after one of their own reflected the very essence of the close-knit bonds that she held so dear. Eloise's heart was forever grateful for the care and affection bestowed upon her by the community she so passionately served throughout her life.

     Eloise is survived by her loving son, Mark (Julie) Lindem, her grandson, Chase Lindem, granddaughter, Alexis (Bryan) Vogelin, and great-grandson, Edward Curtis Vogelin. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Polly Cook, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, including Jane and Dick Buress, and her best friend Roberta Kutlik, among many others.

     She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Curt, her parents Clifford and Elsie, her brother Doug, and sister-in-law Rita.

     A memorial service to celebrate Eloise's life will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11 am at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, 11836 WI-42, Ellison Bay, WI 54210, with Rev. James Honig officiating. Prior to the service, friends and family may pay their respects during the visitation from 9:30 am.
