George Alfon Drastata, 96, of Sister Bay, passed away July 14, 2024 at Serenity Spring Senior Living at Scandia Village in Sister Bay. He had been a resident of the Woodview Assisted Living there for five years before moving into the care center in June. George received such loving care during his years at Scand.
He was born April 24, 1928 in El Campo, TX, the son of Karl "Charles" Louis Drastata and Rosie (Drapela) Drastata. George attended high School in the New Taiton area. He served his country with the United States Army, entering into active service in March of 1945. George was stationed in Japan. He was honorably discharged from the Army in August of 1948 with the rank of Corporal.
George continued his education through the G.I. Bill, in Chicago, IL, and during that time, he met a beautiful young girl from Sweden named Ingegerd Nilsson. It was pretty much love at first sight. George and Ingegerd were united in marriage on August 29, 1951 in Chicago.
Together, they resided in Chicago. George was employed as a Supervisor with International Machine, a tool and die manufacturing company.
Together, he and Ingegerd enjoyed vacationing to Door County, WI. They eventually moved there full-time, settling in Ellison Bay, upon his retirement from International Machine. George didn't slow down in his retirement, though. He and his wife became active members of the Door County Caregivers as well as Bethel Baptist Church. George was also a member of Kiwanis International.
He loved spending time on the water (fishing); that was his happy place.
George and Ingegerd were blessed with three children: David, Michael, and Annie and shared nearly 64 years of marriage. Ingegerd passed away June 6, 2015.
George will be missed by his three siblings, Agnes Young of DeRidder, LA, Henry Drastata of Cypress, TX, Jerome "Jerry" (Cecilia) Drastata of Lolita, TX; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three children; nine siblings, Annie (Willie) Walcik, Mary (Rudolph) Buchta, Frances (Walter) Lutringer, Cecilia (Emil) Marek, Rosie (Tom) Adams, Matilda "Tillie" (Joe) Orsak, Sophie (John) Shell, John Drastata, and Charles Drastata; and other relatives.
George's life will be honored with a memorial service held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024 in the chapel of Serenity Spring Senior Living at Scandia Village, 10560 Applewood Road, Sister Bay, WI 54234 with Pastor Jim Peterson officiating.
Memorials may be given in George's name to Serenity Spring Senior Living at Scandia Village.
