Ida Enquist Obituary

Ida Enquist passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, at the age of 98½. She was the last of 7 Gates children, originally from Bellevue and Ft. Crook, Nebraska.

Ida lived a long and full life, making homes in several countries and many states over the years. Earlier this week, she shared that she was looking forward to roller skating again with her husband. We like to think they're together again.

After graduating from high school, Ida worked for "Ma Bell" as a telephone operator, back when operators manually connected calls using switchboards. After marrying, she became a homemaker and devoted herself to raising her three daughters: Peggy Enquist, Sandy Miller, and Kathy Enquist.

In the early 1970s, Ida and her husband owned a farm in Valmy, WI, but she and her husband, Oliver "Ollie" Enquist didn't stay long in Wisconsin. During their travels, Ida and Ollie discovered a love of golf and she continued playing until she was 80 years old.

In 2020, Ida moved back to Door County with her daughter Peggy, where she enjoyed spending more time with her daughter, Kathy; Kathy's husband, Charlie Henriksen; her granddaughter, Heather Miller-Ruegger; Heather's husband, Danny; and her great-grandchildren, Ashley Earwood, Kayley Stark, and Easton. Daughter Sandy resides in Missouri near Ida's other 2 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-greats!

Ida enjoyed watching the Milwaukee Brewers, especially talking baseball with her son-in-law, and she never passed up an opportunity to play Phase 10 with family and friends.

She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

In keeping with Ida's wishes, she will be cremated, and no public service will be held. Her family will celebrate her life privately as they gather to scatter the ashes of several loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Ida's memory may make a donation to the charity of their choice in her name.

Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC in Sturgeon Bay, WI are caring for Ida and her family. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Ida may be shared with her family through her tribute page at www.HuehnsFuneralHome.com.
