Jane Alma Young, 62, of Washington Island, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021 in Green Bay after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jane was born October 31, 1958 on Washington Island, daughter of Thomas Jessen Sr. and Caroline (Anderson). Jane was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, wed, and completed her journey of life. After graduating from Washington Island High School with the Class of 1976, she attended the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay and studied business management where she met her soulmate Tony. Jane and Tony were united in marriage on October 23, 1982. The two established Tony Young Electric, where Jane was the office manager and Vice President. While working alongside Tony, she also worked for Baylake Bank. Tony and Jane enjoyed traveling with their family, especially when Jane was able to cross off one of her bucket list items to visit Iceland and track her family ties. Jane was proud of being from the Island and it was evident in her love for attending Islanders baseball games, picnics on Schoolhouse Beach, enjoying the outdoors and establishing a goal to walk her beloved dog Lucy, on every road of the Island. She enjoyed gardening, camping, photography and picking morel mushrooms while walking the woods. Jane was a beloved wife and mother and loved her family and friends more than anything.
Jane will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 38 years, Tony; sons, Matt Young of Jacksonville, Florida and Ben (Laura) Young of Green Bay; mother, Caroline (Jerry) Cornell; sister, Susan (Frank) Schlegel and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Jessen Sr.; brother, Thomas Jessen Jr.; and godparents Lou Ann and Ted Jessen.
Jane’s life will be honored with a memorial service on Saturday, April 10, 2021 outside of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest in the Washington Island Town Cemetery following the service.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Jane’s name to Trinity Church or DOOR CANcer, Inc.
