Janet Halverson Obituary

Janet Lee Halverson, 88 years of Ephraim, died Monday, January 20, 2025.

She was born February 7, 1936, in Eldorado, IL, the daughter of Kenneth and Cecil Fern (Watson) Ferris. She grew up in southern Illinois among her family’s animals, greenhouses, and ponds. Later her experiences contributed to her keen knowledge of and appreciation for all things nature.

After majoring in art and geology at the University of Illinois, Janet worked in Rockford, IL before settling in Ephraim. With her husband, she established The Turtle (1969-2007), a well-known gift shop in downtown Ephraim where displays in the rooms behind the white picket fence often reflected Janet’s love of wildlife and included many examples of her own artwork.

Her husband, Richard “Dick” Louis Halverson preceded her in death along with her brother, Ken Ferris.

Survivors include her stepchildren, Mark (Nancy) Halverson of Illinois, Sue (Craig) McDaniel of Colorado; step-grandchildren, Rich Halverson, Graham, Christie and Ryan McDaniel; and step-great-grandchild, Ayden Halverson. Her dear friend, Mary Wilson also survives.

She will be interred next to her husband at the Ephraim Moravian Cemetery.

Casperson Funeral Home of Sister Bay is assisting with arrangements. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Janet may be shared through her tribute page at www.CaspersonFuneralHome.com.
