Joan F. Thayer

Joan Frances Thayer, 90, of Sister Bay, passed away at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay, on August 6, 2025.

Joan was born in Newport, Rhode Island on October 4, 1934, to Frank Leonard and Mary Winifred (Harraghy) Sloger. She graduated from Berne-Knox High School in New York in 1952. In the 1970’s, after marrying her beloved husband, Jerry, the family took a leap of faith moving to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, without jobs, schools or housing. Joan’s love of the Caribbean and travel began then.

Joan said there's "so much to see" and traveled to the Canary Islands, Russia, China, Germany, Belgium, England and Scotland.

Joan is survived by her son, Richard Thayer of Burlington, WA.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; and daughter, Denise "Dee Dee" Byrne.

Per Joan's wishes, there will be no formal service.
