John W. Zacek

     John W. Zacek, 69, of Sister Bay, passed away Monday, July 31, 2023, at home lovingly surrounded by his family.

     John was born February 8, 1954, in Milwaukee, the son of the late John and Halina (Woldanski) Zacek. He graduated from John Marshall High School before enrolling at U.W. Milwaukee. He spent teenage years in the Civil Air Patrol where he met Nora. John loved being outdoors and pursued a career in logging, residing in Antigo. On June 23, 1973, he was married to Nora L. Coolman.

     In 2000 he and Nora moved to Door County when they purchased the Coachlite Inn in Sister Bay and the Open-Hearth Lodge in 2004 which they still operate with family. They sold the Coachlite Inn in 2010.

     John was an active member at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay. He participated in various mission trips abroad Guatemala (8 trips), Tijuana, Alaska and fund raising for many trips he was not able to attend.

     Most important to John was his faith in God and his family. He enjoyed bicycling, hiking and sailing. John was a huge sports fan, especially following the Brewers, Packers, Bucks, and recently adding The Golden Knights and Raiders.

     Survivors include his wife, Nora; four children, Shana (Lucas) Lindow of Baileys Harbor, John C. Zacek of Sister Bay, Jordan (dear friend, Amanda Zielinski) Zacek of Sister Bay, Sandra (Shane) Solomon of Fish Creek; four grandchildren, John T. and Laney Zacek, Gabriella and Malachi Solomon; and sister, Barbara Kaehler of Milwaukee.

     A celebration of his life and faith will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church with Rev. James Honig officiating. Burial will be at Little Sister Cemetery.

     Friends may call at the church Saturday, August 12, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. All are invited to an Open House for family and friends at Open Hearth Lodge, 2669 S Bayshore Dr., Sister Bay, Saturday, August 12, 2023 in the afternoon from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

     Memorials may be made in John’s memory as donations to the Guatemala mission, www.prayamerica.org.
