Laurie Ann Anderson, 87, of Sister Bay, passed away peacefully on the evening of November 8, 2024, at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.
Laurie was born on April 19, 1937, in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late Walter and Amanda (Gerdman) Sterling. She graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School and met the love of her life, Gene Anderson. The two were married on December 29, 1956, at the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church, where they shared over sixty wonderful years together in their home in Sister Bay. In their later years, Laurie and Gene spent their days at a nursing home in Sturgeon Bay, where Laurie made friends easily with fellow residents and staff. Gene preceded her in death on January 19, 2021.
Laurie’s warmth, charm, and vibrant personality touched everyone she met. She was crowned Door County Cherry Blossom Queen in 1955, a fitting honor for a woman known for her radiant presence. Laurie had a deep love of music, and her beautiful singing voice was often heard as she sang with her family and played the piano. Music was a central part of her life growing up, and her memorial service will feature music in her honor.
Laurie loved her family deeply, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Known for her signature style, Laurie enjoyed being “dolled up,” with her nails painted, dressed in fine clothing, and jewelry gifted to her by her husband. Her welcoming personality brought her many friends throughout her life, wherever she went.
Laurie spent her career dedicated to her community. She worked as a waitress in local restaurants, as a caregiver with Porter Kiehnau Home Health Care, and for over ten years as a dental assistant for Dr. Jon Kordon’s practice. Laurie was also a devoted member of the Sister Bay Moravian Church, where she shared her kindness and joyful spirit with others.
Laurie will be lovingly remembered by her family, including her two children, Terri Anderson (Bobby Boettcher) of Sturgeon Bay and Michael Anderson (Helene) of Sister Bay; five grandchildren, Bradley Kwaterski, Jerrad Anderson (Michelle), Nickolas Kwaterski (Cameryn), Kajsa Anderson, and Moe Anderson; her four great-granddaughters, Kylie and Kendal Kwaterski, and Lucy and Margaret Kwaterski; two step-great-grandchildren, Anna and Christopher Drover; her brothers, Walter Sterling (Myrna) of Idaho, Don (Kaye), David (Barbara), and Neal Sterling. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter (Erma) Sterling and Amanda (Archie) Sperber; her husband, Gene; her son, Mark Steven Anderson; her daughter, Tami Lynn Anderson; and her brother, Joel Sterling.
A memorial service to celebrate Laurie’s life will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Sister Bay Moravian Church, with Rev. Kerry Krauss officiating. Friends may gather at the church from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. Laurie will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Make-A-Wish Wisconsin (https://wish.org/wisconsin) in Laurie’s memory. The mission of Make-A-Wish Wisconsin is to grant life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses.
