Lee Lhost Obituary

Leland “Lee” David Lhost, 74, of Sister Bay, died of Parkinson’s disease-related complications on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay.

He was born July 11, 1946, in the Town of Luxemburg, WI, the son of Ervin Lhost and Arline (Marsicek) Lhost Isaacson.

Following graduation from Gibraltar High School in 1964, he served in the United States Army for two years and then worked for Braniff Airlines while living in the Washington, D.C. area. Upon returning to Door County, Lee was taught the stone masonry trade by several northern Door master masons and developed his own style, as each stone mason does, of building with natural Door County field stone. Numerous homes, fireplaces, pillars and patios stand in tribute to his artistry.

On January 13, 1968, he married Jill Johnson at Zion Lutheran Church in Sister Bay.

Lee was an exceptional athlete in his high school years and was always an outdoorsman; enjoying hunting, fishing, gardening and cross-country skiing. Travel became his fondest pastime. He enjoyed new adventures and visiting new destinations. As owner of Bay Shore Travel Agency with Jill, their travels became an exciting part of their life. He was a member of Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay and the Sister Bay Lions Club.

He will be missed by his wife, Jill; daughters, Shannon Jo (Dan) Jungwirth, Holland Rae (Andrew) Gantman, and son, John; grandchildren, Kaden, Josie, Mason, Elsie and Rae; brothers, Gary (Julie) Lhost and Nathan (Betsy) Isaacson, and sister, Deanna Magadanz; and other relatives.

Lee was preceded death by his parents; and brother, Gene Lhost in February, 2020.

“Our family will always be grateful for the compassion of the entire staff of the Door County Medical Center, along with Unity Hospice, for their care of Lee and our family. Throughout the three months as the illness progressed, we were provided reassurance, understanding and, most important, personal time together with Lee.”

Memorial gifts in Lee’s name may be given to the Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church or the Sister Bay Lions Club or a deserving organization of choice.

Services graveside at Little Sister Cemetery will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2020, with Pastor James Honig officiating. Due to health concerns, the family will not be greeting those in attendance and instead requests all to watch the service on the “Casperson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC” Facebook page later that evening.

Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Lee may be shared with his family at www.caspersonfuneralhome.com.
