Lorel Jean Gordon, age 73, of Washington Island, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024. Born and raised on Washington Island, Lorel was a beloved and valued member of the community. who touched the lives of many with her kindness, warmth, and hospitality.
Lorel is survived by her devoted husband, Butch Gordon and her cherished son, Jason Gordon. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Lauren and McKenna. They brought immense joy to her life and she cherished every bit of time she had with them. Lorel is also survived by her sister, Jennifer Inscoe; Lauren and McKenna’s Mother, Karen; her sisters-in-law, Kathy Young, Judy, Doris, and Ann Gordon; plus brothers-in-law, Brad, Steve, and Jamie Gordon; and her numerous nieces and nephews will all miss her deeply.
As a life-long member of Bethel Church, Lorel was involved with the church's Sunday School programs, Vacation Bible School, youth groups, Music Ministry, and newsletter, The Bethel Tidings. Lorel's accomplishments were numerous and varied. She founded and owned the Island Observer. This popular Island newspaper reached every state and several foreign countries. Lorel and her husband, Butch, founded Gordon's North Star Realty on Washington island. Lorel was a gifted writer and had many of her books published. She also was an accomplished photographer and musician.
Lorel loved the Washington Island community. She never met a stranger and went out of her way to make people feel welcomed. Her memory will be carried on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Lorel will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and much cherished friend.
Lorel's life was a testament to the power of her faith, love and family. She loved, served and yearned to have a closer walk with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Celebration of Lorel's Life will be held at Bethel Church on Washington Island on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in her name to Bethel Church.
