Marguerite Grace Dalton, 77, of Ellison Bay, passed away on October 15, 2023, at Scandia Village in Sister Bay, after a recent battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt.
She was born February 11, 1946, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of James and Gertrude (Hoffman) Dalton. Marguerite attended Arlington High School and graduated from Benedictine University, with her master’s degree in education. Marguerite worked as a teacher at Our Lady of the Wayside Elementary School in Arlington Heights. She also held many jobs that included sales, technical recruiter for Dalton and Co., realtor for Kellstrom Ray Agency in Sister Bay, lifeguard and swim instructor at the Fish Creek YMCA, along with teaching English as a 2nd language for adults.
On August 10, 1996, she married Leon Kellum. They lived in many places including Arlington Hts. IL, Vero Beach, FL and then returned to Sister Bay before moving recently to Ellison Bay, WI.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed volunteering for the Humane Society of Door County. She was a member of the book club Fork and Cork in Illinois and Door County. Her hobbies included swimming, fishing, reading, playing cards and all of her many animals.
Marguerite will be missed by her son, Ian Smith; sisters, Kathleen "Kathy" (Tim) Dalton Healy of Minneapolis, MN, Barbara (James L. Martin III) Martin of Vero Beach, FL; brother, James (Sharon) Dalton of Vero Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Ellen Goodrich, (Bill, deceased) of Mokena, IL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Marguerite's life will be honored with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church (434 W Park St, Arlington Heights, IL 60005).
Memorials may be given in her name to the Wisconsin Humane Society--Door County Campus and Cherry Cove in Sturgeon Bay.
