Mark Weborg Obituary

ALL STATIONS. ALL STATIONS. ALL STATIONS.

Mark Weborg, 73, of Gills Rock, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee with his family at his side.

He was born April 9, 1952, in Sturgeon Bay and was a lifelong resident of Gills Rock, the son of the late Marvin and Eleanor (Strandell) Weborg. Mark attended Gibraltar High School and graduated with the Class of 1970.

On June 12, 1971, he married Melannie Gruman. Together they raised their three daughters, Heather, Holly, and Leslie, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and strong family values.

Mark was a fourth-generation commercial fisherman and spent his life working the waters of Lake Michigan. Over the years he fished alongside his father Marvin, brother Jeff, nephew Eric, son-in-law Jim, and right-hand man James Rice at Weborg Dock. Fishing was not only his livelihood but a proud family tradition.

Mark served his community faithfully throughout his life. He was a member of the Gibraltar School Board for over twenty years and also served on the Board of Bridges International Ministries and the Board of the Door County Maritime Museum. He was also a devoted Deacon at Bethel Baptist Church. Mark believed in helping others whenever he could-whether mowing a neighbor's lawn, cutting wood, plowing driveways after a snowstorm, or lending a hand wherever it was needed.

Known for his compassionate and generous spirit, Mark had a quick smile and a sarcastic sense of humor that brought laughter to those around him. He enjoyed many simple pleasures in life, including planting and tending his garden, riding his motorcycle, golfing, traveling, singing, watching sunrises over the water, and even his well-known love for ketchup. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his grandchildren-playing with them, cheering them on, and making memories they will cherish forever.

Above all, Mark lived a life grounded in a deep and abiding faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ. His love and commitment to his family and his quiet service to others were the foundation of his life and the legacy he leaves behind. Mark will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Melannie; daughters, Heather (Jim) Laughlin, Holly (Nathan) Sunstrom, and Leslie (Jeremy) Staver; grandchildren, Anthony Laughlin, Alex Laughlin, Isaac Sunstrom, Tyler Sunstrom, Riley Staver, Brady Staver, and Reese Staver; grandson-in-law, Joey Fuerst; brothers, Niles Weborg and Gene Weborg; sisters, Joy (Rick) Kjell and Janice DeNure; sister-in-law Elizabeth (Jeff) Weborg; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Alyssa Fuerst; brother, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Weborg; and sisters-in-law, Joan (Niles) Weborg and Roxanne (Gene) Weborg.

Mark's life will be honored with a Memorial Service held Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 2622 S Bay Shore Dr., Sister Bay, with Pastor James Peterson officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, April 17 at the church from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, with a luncheon to follow. He will be laid to rest in Rowleys Bay Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to Bethel Baptist Church, Door County Maritime Museum, or Joni and Friends ministry serving individuals with disabilities worldwide.
