Michael Smith Obituary

Michael Arthur Smith, 76, Sister Bay, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center, Green Bay.

He was born on March 3, 1950, the son of Walter and Dolores (Fischer) Smith.

Mike attended Liberty Grove School and St. Rosalia Parish. He graduated from Gibraltar High School with the class of 1968. Mike worked during the summer for Bay Ridge Golf Course while he studied at UW-Stout, in Menomonie. He graduated with a BS degree in Industrial Arts and Drivers Education. He taught Industrial Arts at Algoma Elementary School. Mike also worked for Door County Coop in Sister Bay and farmed on the family dairy farm.

He enjoyed taking rides, spending time with his family, playing cards and building wood furniture. He was a great cook and baker. He loved to take care of his plants and taking his nieces and nephews to the outdoor movie theater.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus and Sister Bay FFA.

He will be missed by his siblings, Yvonne Speiser of Lockport, IL, Mary Olson of Ellison Bay, Kathy Manson, Tom Smith, Richard Smith, all of the Town of Liberty Grove, Debbie (Don) Lettie of the Town of Sevastopol, Bruce Smith of Kimberly, and Brian Smith of the Town of Liberty Grove; siblings-in-law, Betty Smith, of Pacheco, CA, Judy Smith, of Fish Creek; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, 3 siblings, Mercedes, Walter and William Smith; brothers-in-law, Michael Olson and James Speiser; godson, Peter Smith; and other relatives.

Mike's life will be honored with a Memorial Service held at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 2410 S. Bay Shore Dr, Sister Bay at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 16, 2026, with Fr. Tom Farrell officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 9:30 until the time of service.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to his case worker, Megan Sinclair, Dr. Miller and Scott, the staff at Bayview Senior Care and the staff at Aurora BayCare Hospital. A special thank you to the staff at Amethyst Health of Algoma for caring so much about Mike. And finally THANK YOU to Mike’s niece, Heather Anderson, for all the care and guidance she provided Mike and our family.
