Myrvin Somerhalder Obituary

Myrvin Pern Somerhalder, 85, of Fish Creek, Wisconsin, passed away on February 11, 2026, at Pete and Jelaine Horton Skilled Nursing Center at the Door County Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 25, 1940 in Antioch, CA, the son of the late Irvin and Myrle (Barr) Somerhalder and was a 1958 graduate of Liberty High School in Brentwood, California.

After high school, Myrv attended college classes until his enlistment in the Air Force in 1961. He was honorably discharged in 1965. Myrv married Holly Hardt at the Baha'i House of Worship, Wilmette, Illinois, on November 16, 1968, and together they shared 57 years of marriage and raised two children. He was a man of strong faith and will be buried in accordance with Baha'i traditions.

Myrv and Holly moved to Fish Creek, Wisconsin, in 1970. Myrv worked with Lee Telfer and Curt Wiltse in the surveying business for many years. He was very active in his community as a Town Supervisor, Fire Chief with the Gibraltar Fire Department, Airport Committee and also served on various town committees and was on the board of the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse and Gibraltar Historical Society. He truly loved his community and enjoyed researching the history of the area.

Myrv is survived by his loving wife, Holly; two children, daughter, Susan VanderKinter (Ben) and children, Emily, Nora and Carson; son, Marcus Somerhalder; sister-in-law, Linda Somerhalder; brother-in-law, Tom Hawkins; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Herb and Gayle Hardt. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Shawn Somerhalder, Michael Somerhalder (Abbe), Natasha Freeman (Darrell), Tonya County (Rob), Tamara Skinner (Jesse) and Adam Hardt (Kate). He was proceeded in death by his parents; sister, Lynda Hawkins; and brother, Ronald Somerhalder, uncles and cousins.

A private family remembrance was held. He was laid to rest in Blossomberg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the Gibraltar Historical Society, PO Box 323, Fish Creek WI 54212.

Our family would like to extent our sincere appreciation for all the loving care given to our husband, father, grandfather and uncle by Dr. Richard Hogan and Dr. Mathias Fuchs. They have carried us through many trials over the years and we will be forever grateful. Also, thank you to all the nurses that cared for Myrv at Door County Medical Center and the Skilled Nursing Facility.
