Peter John Smith

Peter John Smith, 59, of the Town of Liberty Grove, passed away in the loving arms of his family at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, on Friday, July 11, 2025.

He was born August 20, 1965, in Sturgeon Bay, the son of John Smith and Bonita "Bonnie" (Johnson) Smith. Pete started working for Carol's Corral at the age of 6 and continued working there through high school.

He took over his brother's lawn jobs in Northern Door County, then eventually worked for Johnny Bean's (John Anderson Lawn Service) for over 40 years, while at the same time, he established Peter Smith's Lawn Service (originally known as Smitty's Snip 'n Clip) maintaining local properties and snow plowing in the winter months.

On July 3, 1998, Pete married Diane Zak Sitte in Sturgeon Bay.

He taught taekwondo with Shaun Koulias at the YMCA in Sturgeon Bay. Pete had a passion for collecting old tractors, Red Farmalls, gray Fords, a yellow Minneapolis Moline, and a few Allis Chalmers were just some of the tractors in his collection.

He will be missed by his wife, Diane, with whom he shared over 27 years of marriage; his son, Erik Smith of Howard; Diane's children, Laurie (Joe) Stafford of Neenah and Michael (Brittney Voss) Sitte of Greendale; step-grandchildren, Aaron Stafford and Briar Sitte; parents, John and Bonnie Smith of the Town of Liberty Grove; brothers, Bryon (Joni Doyle) Smith of the Town of Liberty Grove and Doug (Michael Smith-Meulemans) Smith of Baileys Harbor; siblings-in-law, Christine (Duane) Ohman of the Town of Gibraltar, Beverly (Wayne) Brungraber of Little Sturgeon, Darrel (Sandra) Zak of the Town of Gibraltar, and Theresa (Eric Landen) Jeanquart of Iron Mountain, MI, and Jennifer (Brad) Stallsmith of Green Bay; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Pete was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Orin and Dorothy (Spudick) Smith and maternal grandparents, William and Delphine (McArdle) Johnson; mother-in-law, Jane Zak Maufort, and father-in-laws, Sebastian Zak and Joseph Maufort; and other relatives.

His life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial prayed at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Stella Maris Parish-Sister Bay site, 2410 S. Bay Shore Drive, Sister Bay, WI, 54234 with Fr. Thomas Farrell as celebrant.

Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
