Peter Joseph Thelen, age 76 of the Town of Baileys Harbor, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
He was born on March 10, 1949, to the late John and Elizabeth (Candioto) Thelen in Chicago.
Pete joined the U.S. Army in 1966, and served in Germany with the financial corp. Pete made some life-long friends during that time, and they are still friends to this day. Thanks to Arthur, Mike, John, and Frank. Pete had a very special gift of making friends and keeping track of them.
Pete and I met at Good Olde Days at Winfield, Illinois in 1977. For me it was love at first sight, but Pete was there with a date. Some weeks later we met again at a friend's wedding and had a chance to dance, and we've been together ever since.
Throughout the years, many of you have had a chance to hear Pete’s music, watch him perform, play music with him, and for the frequent readers of the Pulse, a chance to get to know some of Pete’s perspectives and his special sense of humor. Pete had a true love of the written and spoken word, sharing his ideas and talents and always willing to listen and learn. He never lost sight of the importance of our freedom of expression.
So here’s to you Pete - the love of my life, my BFF, and someone who taught me the true meaning of kindness.
Through the many chapters of our lives we have been blessed with a beautiful and loving family and a multitude of the most amazing friends - some still here on Earth and some jamming the Blues up there in the Great Beyond.
Back in June of 2020 Pete came home from his first extensive hospital stay and because of COVID we were unable to see him during that two week stay. When he returned home he was fully motivated to start an organization to raise money to help others, and get it to people in need and important causes. Hence, the start of Fountain of Fellowship.
Love you Pete and miss you every second!
Pete is survived by me, Roberta Thelen, his wife of 44 years, sons Jason (Jaime), Ben (Silvana), daughters Katherine (Dave), Jackie (Shane), grandchildren Ethan, Evan, Zoe, Jackson, Maxwell and Carolina, siblings Carol, Mary and Bob (Angie), and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Please no flowers or gifts. Instead consider a donation to the organization Pete started or to another charity of your choice to help others. There will be a Celebration of Pete's Life in the future.
Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Pete may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.caspersonfuneralhome.com
