Phebe Vance

     Phebe Vance, 78, of Washington Island, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2022.

     She was born July 27, 1944 in Boston, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Lewis Alexander and Jane (Kelley) Vance. After graduating from Corcord Academy, Phebe attended Caroll College, where she graduated with her master’s degree in Social Work. In her younger years, she enjoyed skiing, playing racquetball, and rode horses competitively. Phebe married Gary Lee Ebert in Pewaukee on May 19, 1990. She was passionate about the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hiking, and canoeing.

     Phebe will be missed by her husband, Gary; daughter, Heather (Dan) Ludington McDevitt of Northbrook, Illinois; son, Mike (Olga) Piehler of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Brian McDevitt, Nate Ludington, Janie Ludington, Joe McDevitt, Kate McDevitt, Ellison Piehler, and Claire Piehler; and sister, Jane (Richard) McCauley.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Jane Vance and brother, Alexander Vance Jr.

     In honor of her wishes, no formal services will be held. Memorial donations can be made in Phebe’s name to WICHP or the Door County Land Trust.
