Phyllis Ann Schwennesen, age 90 of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Pete and Jelaine Horton Center - Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born on May 17, 1933, to the late Frederick and Hilma (Seelenbinder) Giermann in Chicago. She is a 1951 graduate of Jones Commercial High School in Chicago, where she learned about clothing and retail. As a teenager she wanted to become a pilot and worked to try to save the money for the lessons. Unfortunately, she was never able to save enough, but was proud of trying to accomplish her dream.
On August 11, 1951, Phyllis was united in marriage to William Jacob Schwennesen at St. Simmons Lutheran Church in Chicago. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1992. She worked with William as a bookkeeper and in sales at their store Skokie Camera Shop in Skokie, IL.
Phyllis enjoyed hiking, cross-country skiing, and watching the local wildlife. She was an avid reader and enjoyed studying history and the Jewish Religion. She loved to cook, dance, and listen to music. Most of all, she loved her family and her dogs.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Marie (Eric) Becker of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Thomas, Joseph, and Cody; two great grandchildren; niece, Janet Prochnow; and her friends Steve Hoffing and Susan Matheson. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son in infancy; sister, Laverne (Charles) Moore and sister Lois Giermann in infancy.
Private family services were held for Phyllis.
