Robert “Bob” Edward Eldridge, 77, formerly of Washington Island, passed away January 6, 2023.
He was born on February 9, 1945 in Evanston, Illinois, son of the late William and Rhoda (Gunnlaugsson) Eldridge. He joined two older brothers, Jim and Bill. Shortly after the end of World War II, the family moved to Washington Island. While there, he gained another brother, Jeffery, and a sister, Ann.
In 1950, the family moved to Marquette Heights, Illinois, and Bob attended North Pekin Marquette Heights Schools. He graduated from Pekin High School with the Class of 1963.
In 1965, Bob and his brother, Jeff, enlisted in the United States Navy together and served until their honorable discharge in 1968. After serving, Bob returned home and worked various jobs in the Pekin-Peoria area.
Later in life, Bob received a call to preach the Gospel and served the Lord for several years. Upon his retirement from ministry, Bob made his home on Washington Island, a place very dear to him. Bob was an amateur artist and loved to depict the scenery and wildlife found on the island. He loved the beaches and the woods. He found peace and comfort in observing God’s beautiful creations. He enjoyed the visit to the island by his family and friends.
Bob spent his last years in a nursing home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rhoda Eldridge; brother, Jeffery Eldridge; and two nephews, Caesare Dentino and John Eldridge.
A memorial service to honor Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Church. Burial will follow immediately at the Washington Island Cemetery, where military honors will be performed. A celebration of his life will continue afterward at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Bob’s name to the Washington Island American Legion Post 402.
