Sharon Naomi Cobb, age 87 of Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Serenity Springs at Scandia Village in Sister Bay.
Sharon was born on June 25, 1937, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Richard and Naomi (Taylor) Beardsley, and spent what she described as "a happy childhood" in Lapeer, Michigan. She loved her family, nature, music, and learning. Sharon was a graduate of Alma College in Michigan and earned a Master's in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Sharon was endlessly curious about everything and nurtured that curiosity in others from her first English teacher position after college, through her volunteer stations in retirement at the Ridges Sanctuary and the Bailey's Harbor Library. As a Media Specialist, she opened and automated two new libraries in the Columbus School District, ushering them into the 21st century. During retirement, she discovered more about Door County wildflowers, dragonflies, and the ridge swale complex. She was also a devoted Citizen Scientist on DNR stream monitoring and conservation projects in Door County.
While she was in the Alma College Choir, she met the love of her life, George. They were united in marriage on August 16, 1959, at the First Presbyterian church in Lapeer, Michigan. The couple shared their love of music throughout their marriage. Sharon played the piano and sang in numerous choral groups. She also sang around the fire with George, children, grandchildren, and countless friends.
Sharon's love, laughter, and gentle spirit will be cherished by her husband of 66 years, George; her daughter Jennifer (Jon Cushman) of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren, Frank and Will Cushman and Shawna Lu and Jenna Zusi-Cobb; beloved big brother, Dick Beardsley; dear sister-in-law, Claudia Ramirez; nephews, Armando and Alejandro Ramirez (Lynne, Lily, Vinnie); niece, Shanna Beardsley (Glenn, Ella, Nate Johnson); loving PEO sisters and family friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her son, George Jeffery; her parents, Richard Beardsley and Naomi Beardsley; mother and father-in-law, George Cobb and Frances Cobb.
A modest memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay with Rev. James Honig officiating. A visitation will be held at church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Ridges Sanctuary (RidgesSanctuary.org) or a research organization, environmental preservation, or education organization of your choice.
