Sharon Marie Donegan

     Sharon M. Donegan, age 76 of Sister Bay and a longtime resident of Ellison Bay, passed away at Scandia Village on Sunday, September 3, 2023, due to heart failure.

     Sharon was born on December 2, 1946, to the late Thomas and Dorothy (Boelter) Donegan in Chicago, IL. 

     Growing up, Sharon and her parents shared a “two flat” with her cousin Barb’s family. The two girls were inseparable as youngsters and throughout adulthood, where Barb followed Sharon to live in Door County. In Chicago, Sharon worked for Harris Bank, eventually becoming a VP of Operations. In 2003 she retired and moved to Door County buying a home in Ellison Bay and working with Premier Properties in their Cottage Glen sales office. Eventually she became the ultimate Door County volunteer, from the Clearing, to Shepherd of the Bay Church in Ellison Bay, to American Folklore Theatre in Fish Creek, to Birch Creek in Egg Harbor, and finally the Door County Land Trust in Sturgeon Bay. She would offer to help up and down the county, wherever it was needed. In the Cottage Glen development where she lived, one resident described her as “a very enthusiastic community leader who sought to bring us all together”. She also served two terms as the HOA president. She liked to hike Door County trails and sit and knit with friends. She was also an active member of several philanthropic groups.

     Most of all she was known for her friendly smile, her love for her dog Molly plus more than a few cats. Whenever she saw you, her face would light up and she’d say “Hi! How’re you doing?” And she’d wait, wanting to hear the answer!

     She is survived by her cousin Barbara Bock of Sister Bay.

     A memorial service honoring Sharon’s life will be held at the Casperson Funeral Home, 2594 Bay Shore Drive, Sister Bay on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Joy Zakrzewski officiating.  A gathering of family and friends will follow services. Donations in Sharon’s memory to the Door County Land Trust, P.O. Box 65, Sturgeon Bay, 54235, will be greatly appreciated.
