Susan Marie (Sumnicht) Sturm

Susan Marie Sturm, age 72 of Fish Creek, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

Susan was born in Shawano, WI, on November 11, 1953, daughter of Kenneth Charles and Dorothy Mae (Gantz) Sumnicht. She graduated from Shawano High School and attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, studying percussion and interior design.

She married Fred Sturm on August 6, 1977, outdoors in Oconomowoc, WI. Susan gave birth to two children, Ivan "Ike" Sturm and Madeline Sturm in 1978 and 1979. Susan taught in the preparatory department at Lawrence University and also worked in commercial music and retail fields while raising her children.

The Sturm family lived in and around Appleton, WI from 1978-1991, until moving to Honeoye Falls, NY. Fred and Susan moved to DePere, WI, in 2002, when Fred rejoined the Lawrence University faculty. After his passing in 2014, Susan built her own home in Fish Creek, WI, and resided there until her death.

She was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church and served consistently as a volunteer at church, hospice, and for Meals on Wheels. She loved painting and music and took pride in cultivating a warm and inviting home environment.

She is survived by her children, Ike and Madeline; grandchildren, Rylan and Kendall Sturm; her brother, David Sumnicht; and her stepsister, Barbara Karlen.
